Monday 01 February (Makassar)

Activities:
Airport transfers. Bike assembly. Cultural orientation. Outstanding administration. Getting to know one another. Trip launch.

Tuesday 02 February (Makassar - Sengkang)

Activities:
We’ll travel (6 hours) 215 km from Makassar to Sengkang by minibus. In Sengkang: Bike testing. Trip briefing. If there’s any time we’ll check out the local silk weaving, the floating villages on and traditional Buginese house.

Wednesday 03 February (Sengkang - Buntumatabing)

Activities:
On our first cycle day we’ll leave Sengkang with the pre-dawn Subuh prayers bound for east coast Buntumatabing 90 km away. Route is gently undulating through rice growing villages.

Thursday 04 February (Buntumatabing - Palopo)

Activities:
The 80 km ride will afford us wonderful views of both the coast (from lookout spots) and the mountains of Tana Toraja that we’ll be challenging over the next week. Palopo (Pop: 93,000) is a bustling (Indonesian) cosmopolitan city.

Friday 05 February (Palopo - Batutumonga)

Activities:
The route climbs and winds its way for 90 km into the misty and mystical mountains and valleys of Tana Toraja, through roadside villages with their boat shaped houses, church spires alongside ancestral caves, on the way to mountaintop Batutumonga that affords breathtaking views of Rantepao and beyond.

Saturday 06 February (Batutumongga - Limbong)

Activities:
After 3 days of solid cycling this will be our first non-cycle day. We’ll trek further into the mountains from Batutumonga to Limbong village where we’ll spend the night (rafting launch point).

Sunday 07 February (Limbong – Ma’dong)

Activities:
We’ll walk the 4km down to the river (Maulu/Maiting river - 25 KM). Local villagers will carry the rafts and gear. We’ll white water raft to a spot not far from Rantepao.

Monday 08 February (Rantepao)

Activity:
Cycle around Tana Toraja (105 km) taking in the sites.
